We understand that Oriental rugs can vary in construction, condition and type of soil found. These factors determine our individualized care; we do not employ a "one size fits all" technique.
We choose the right procedure, which will best preserve the beauty and value of your Oriental rug.
Our Star Wheel Duster is a virtually antique machine made solely for de-gritting Oriental rugs,
and ours is the only one still operative in New England. It is unmatched for removing grit from
thick or very dense rugs. We also have a Moore Rug Duster that removes the ground in gritty dirt
from older or fragile rugs. Other Oriental rug cleaners may only use vacuums, which do not remove this grit.
Removing this grit is truly critical to the continued health of your rug, as grit is very abrasive
and cuts at the fibers of the rug, wearing away at them to reduce your rug's life and beauty.
Do not be misled by claims of "hand cleaning" made by some Oriental rug cleaners and dealers.
In many cases, what they actually use are small rotary scrubbing machines, which can be far too
aggressive and injure some rugs. Grillo's staff only utilizes hand held brushes, which deliver
the gentle mechanical action that is required and implied by the term "hand cleaning."
Ours is a complete wet wash, by which your rug is thoroughly immersed, the time honored way to
clean Oriental rugs. Our squeeze rollers are able to extract the rug to a state of dampness
like the spin cycle on your washing machine. Others do a mere surface wash of the rugs tips
because they do not have true washing facility and are unable to properly extract water. Our
washing cleans your rug down to the base of the knots, while surface washing can leave soil
and detergents injurious to your rug.
An extended drying time is harmful to the Oriental rug cleaning process, and can cause a multitude of problems, including color
bleeding and browning. We have an engineered dry room with humidistatic controls for safe
and effective drying. Any other method of drying is not as safe.
Unlike other large facilities, ours is not a fully automated system like a car wash.
We are able to intervene in the process to attend to a specific need and manicuring. My staff
likes the metaphor "Other cleaners are like car washes, we are detailers!"
Your Oriental rugs are cleaned at our own facility, by our own experienced staff of many years.
We never send your rugs out to others.
